• Detecting effects of different operation settings on the effluent quality, sludge properties and powerconsumtion.
• Experimenting with different settings. For example return sludge ratio, recirculation ratio, desired value of oxigen, surplus sludge removal.
  
• Testing behaviour under different boundary conditions, among other things, the case of failure without risk for the aquatic environment.
